How should Israel resolve the Palestinian problem?
By giving Palestinians a stake in the game.
Israelis, have to make the counterintuitive move by giving Palestinians full rights within Israeli society.
A one state solution is the solution.
Muslims and Jews do not represent an existential threat to each other.
Meir Kahane is wrong.
The hardline zealots of Hamas are wrong.
Both Israel and Hamas must begin by eliminating the rhetoric and culture of hatred they have for each other.
This begins at the leadership.
If you can make peace for 7 days to exchange prisoners, you can make peace for 70 days. If you can make peace for 70 days, you can make peace for 700 days and so on.
Instead of exchanging prisoners, you will exchange concepts and future pain.
Think of it as a futures contract on Wall Street.
We agree to stop hating you for 70 days and you agree to stop hating us for 70 days.
We agreed to stop bombing you for 700 days and you agreed to stop bombing us for 700 days.
And so on.
We agreed to send our sports teams into Gaza, and you agree to send your sports teams into Israel.
We agree to send our Israeli musicians into Gaza and you agree to send your musicians into Israel.
We agree to send our students into Gaza, and you agree to send your students into Israel.
Both Israel and Gaza will be stronger as a united force.
Both Israel and Garza will add to each other’s strengths.
The whole will be greater than the sum of its parts.
Israel will cement its stature and its acceptability to the rest of the Arab world by accepting Gaza and the West Bank into a one state solution.
Everybody will come out a winner.
Israel will be able to tap in to the talent of Gazans, and the citizens of Gaza will be able to tap into the talents of Israelis.
That’s the ticket to prosperity for both.
The alternative is death for everyone.
This is difficult to see for the people immersed in a conflict.
But it is not difficult to see for the student of history.
Conflict and war robs people and citizens of their prosperity.
Peace enhances prosperity.
It’s not hard to live in peace.
It’s as simple as turning on a light switch.
You just need to make the decision to do it. The rest is easy.
On April 12, 1861, the Civil War began in the United States. The leaders decided to fight a war. Then the people in the United States killed each other at a furious rate.
Over 750,000 people died.
Prior to the declaration of war, nobody was killing anybody; then because somebody turned on the light switch everybody started killing everybody.
Then, on April 9, 1865, somebody turned the light switch off, and everybody stop killing each other within a month.
The same thing can happen in Gaza.
People will generally follow what the leaders tell them to do.
