In 100 years, historians will talk about us and who we are.
What will be our crime?
It will be the same as that of the German people during the 1930s.
The crime of the German people is not that they knew what was going on with the Jews, but that they didn’t want to know.
How could they not have known?
On day one, there are Jews, living in their city or town; on day two they are not living there.
You go to the next town and you see that there are no Jews there either.
You look at the synagogue, which was once filled with Jews on Friday night, and you see that it is empty.
Where did they go?
How can you not know that something is happening to the Jews?
Only if you choose to not want to know.
And that is the crime of the German people.
They were actively cognitively dissonant.
It wasn’t a passive cognitive dissonance. It was an aggressive, malignant, cognitive dissonance.
They aggressively and willfully chose not to know.
They had been programmed to believe in Aryan superiority. Jews and Slavs to them were mongrel races.
This programming had been going on for centuries prior to Adolf Hitler.
Going back hundreds of years, people, such as Martin Luther, Wilhelm Marr, and Heinrich Treitschke fueled hated of the Jews.
Darwin’s theory of evolution which invited the inevitable concept of social Darwinism added fuel to the fire.
Germans came to believe that they were the master race.
It became easy and comfortable to believe this. The leaders not wanting to be blamed for their own failed economic policies were only too happy to blame the Jews for the ills of society.
The German people not wanting to do the hard work of thinking and asking questions went along.
They shut their minds down and let the government do the uncomfortable dirty work.
You can say the same for Americans in our day and age.
They aggressively do not want to know.
They would prefer that the government do the dirty work and leave them alone.
Jimmy Carter stated as much when referring to apartheid in the West Bank.
The interviewer asked him why Americans don’t rise up and protest the apartheid in the West Bank, and Jimmy Carter said that Americans don’t want to know what is going on in the West Bank.
Similarly, Americans don’t want to know about the corporate slave shops that America runs around the world.
They don’t want to know about Nike owning slave plantations in Southeast Asia.
They don’t want to know about Levi Strauss running a slave plantation in Haiti.
Their minds cannot accept this.
It’s much easier to ignore this while focusing on Haiti as a failed state with uncivilized “animals” and their voodoo culture that won’t permit legitimate democracy.
Tonton Macoutes and machetes sell big time.
In contrast it’s too uncomfortable for Americans to accept that Levi Strauss – and by extension America – contributes to the economic demise of the Haitian people.
Their minds cannot accept this because this knowledge is inconsistent with the programming that they have received since they were small children.
That is when the propaganda begins.
Your first grade teacher was your first encounter with Joseph Goebbels only you didn’t know it.
She was the first to feed you political lies.
When you were in first grade, she told you that George Washington never told a lie and that George Washington threw a silver dollar across the Potomac river.
These simple falsehoods exist to subliminally program you that a) you can trust the government, b) that the government is moral, and c) that the government can solve all problems.
George Washington throwing a silver dollar across the Potomac river is equivalent to Mao Tse Tung floating bravely down the Yangtze river.
It’s theatre.
Sure, I guess Mao waded into the middle of a safe stream with the equivalent of the Navy SEALs guarding his every move.
But the idea of him floating down the Yangtze for hundreds of miles is absurd.
So is the story of George Washington throwing a silver dollar across the Potomac given that the Potomac river is 1100 feet across at its narrowest.
Nevertheless, Americans are fed a steady diet of myths from the age of five. George Washington, throwing a silver dollar across the Potomac river was only the first lie.
Throughout their lives Americans are steadily programmed that we are an enlightened democracy, and that the rest of the world is a barren wasteland of despots ruling over animals and barbarians.
Americans have also been taught that it is our mission to civilize the barbarian beast.
This is the justification for the never ending wars that America engages in.
We are there to export our beautiful democracy.
Yet the true goal of these wars is not to lift up these barbarians from poverty. The goal of these wars is to create slave plantations off which Americans thrive.
Americans cannot come to see this.
So they shield them selves within a Disneyesque cocoon of myths and lies that are perpetuated by flag waving broadcasters on Fox News.
Sean Hannity will ruthlessly promote these lies while wearing an American flag on his lapel.
He will bring on a popular football coach like Lou Holtz to cement his position.
Therefore it is patriotic to believe in the jingoistic BS that Hannity peddles.
And so Americans move along, actively and aggressively cognitively dissonant of the horrors of the world.
Millions and millions of people are killed in Southeast Asia, Indonesia, and the Middle East, yet Americans move happily along.
As we speak, thousands of Palestinians are slaughtered each week in Gaza, yet Americans move happily along.
Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Merrily merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is but a dream
Not for the Palestinians. Not for the people of the Middle East. Not for the people in Cambodia. Not for the people in Indonesia. Not for the people in Vietnam. Not for the people in Central America.
For them life has been an absolute horror.
