Zach Wilson played a great game.
He deserves a pat on the back, not a kick in the ass.
The Jets may have lost the game,but tonight they found a quarterback.
This kid is made of steel.
For the entire past week, Wilson took the heat of the New York press.
And I mean high temperature as in the surface of the sun.
Everybody, and I mean everybody, called for his removal.
Rich Eisen, Mike Greenberg, Mike Francesa, Evan Roberts, Joe Benigno, Jake Asman.
Even Joe Namath called for his sacking.
Joe Namath!!!
Joe Namarh is the most important player in the history of the franchise!
Now that is something.
After Namath voiced his opposition, I began to worry for the kids’s mental health.
I thought l that he might go out and kill himself.
How many of us could hold up to that pressure?
There probably isn’t a greater pressure cooker on the planet than the sports crucible of New York City.
Wilson seemingly had nobody in his corner except Robert Saleh, and even he looked like he might crack.
And that’s because the press was going after him for supporting his quarterback. They called him every name in the book in order to force him to yank the young man.
They told him he was going to get fired for keeping Zach Wilson.
They also told us that Zach Wilson had surely lost the locker room.
A rebellion was imminent we were led to believe.
The players were against him they dutifully reported.
Well …
In spite of all that, Zach Wilson came out and delivered a performance worthy of any great NFL quarterback.
He hit his receivers with laser guided darts.
He moved and energized his team.
He was great.
And given all that, the long suffering fans of the New York Jets should be proud of their new quarterback.
The kid is a star.
