Why is Donald Trump popular?
Is it solely because people know him – because they have seen him on television so much?
That’s part of it. People feel comfortable with people they know. And people feel as if they know Trump because they have seen him on The Apprentice and because they have been watching him for decades now.
But it’s not just that.
It’s something else.
Trump, for all his faults, comes across as genuine.
Even though he is a fake he comes off as not fake.
The other politicians, who are running for the Republican nomination are cardboard cut-outs.
They are Clutch Cargos.
They have no vibrant personality.
There is nothing about them that gives you a mental erection.
Trump gives you an erection..
Whether you like him or hate him, he makes you sit up and notice.
Why is that?
Much of it has to do with the fact that he’s not afraid to say outrageous things.
He’s not afraid to offend people.
In that sense he is larger than life.
He violates all the social rules that our parents taught us when we were five years of age.
He makes fun of people’s appearances.
He makes fun of people with cerebral palsy.
He calls POWs losers.
To me, this makes him unfit for office.
But to many people, this makes him larger than life.
And what many people are looking for in a presidential candidate these days is a savior-god who is larger than life, who transcends humanity, and who is therefore capable of saving the people from misery.
And there is a lot of misery out there.
Trump clearly appears large enough to many people..
This seems crazy to me, but people falling all over Taylor Swift seems crazy to me as well.
I don’t get the power of fame and its affect on people, but there is no denying that it exists.
People fall all over Taylor Swift, because she has the power to transport them to a nice place which is better than where they are now.
Clearly, there’s an emotional bond between Donald Trump and his followers. It certainly isn’t because of his accomplishments, which are few.
If any of the other candidates are to replace Donald Trump as the front runner, they must find a way to tap in to people’s emotions and their need for someone large enough to fix their misery.
If it can’t be the candidate personally, then it must be the platform.
One of the other candidates must therefore offer a bold vision of a better life for the people.
Currently the other candidates offer tiresome solutions, which people have heard one million times before.
Paradise is what they want.
They want a paradise where their life is better.
Trump the con man falsely plays on that desire.
Sincerely,
Archer Crosley
