The current cease-fire deal between Israel and the Palestinians will ultimately fail.
It is destined to fail.
It will fail because the framework for peace is missing.
Only when Palestinians and Israelis working side-by-side in various enterprises can see each other as human beings instead of predatory animals can the barriers of hate be broken down.
Words on paper won’t cut the mustard.
There has been too much damage done to both Palestinians and Israelis to work against such a peace.
More than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israelis. All the hospitals have been bombed. All the schools have been turned into rubble.
There are very few habitable structures for the people.
How are the Palestinians supposed to put this behind them?
The Israelis have also been damaged by this war. They have suffered a terrible blow with regard to international prestige.
Their leaders have been accused of war crimes.
Thousands of Israeli soldiers have died or been injured.
The PTSD inflicted upon Israeli soldiers will be sufficient to fill psychiatric words in Israel for the next 50 years.
What do the Israelis have to show for it?
Both sides have lost in this war.
Is it likely that Israel will immediately abandon the principles of Meir Kahane overnight?
This seems unlikely.
Is it likely that Palestinians will drop their hatred of a people who have been oppressing them for over seventy -five years?
No.
As it stands now, there are no victors.
And yet the leadership of both Israelis and Palestinians will not see this.
One would think that they would be able to see the futility of their fight.
But they will not.
They will dig in their heels while concluding that they have sacrificed too much to quit now.
Propaganda, slogans and false biblical prophecy will fuel their thinking.
With the absence, of a framework for peace – that of Israelis and Palestinians working side by side to break down the barriers of hate – the leadership will ultimately resume the killing.
Now, it is possible that the ruling elite, who finance these wars, will choose to make trillions of bucks by rebuilding Gaza before they decide to destroy it again.
But ultimately war will go on as long as the conditions that cause war exist.
