The lockdown did not save lives.  Nor did keeping children out of schools save lives.

Children should go back to school.  It is the children who will protect the adults now and in the future.  If you have a greater number of deaths in your community that is all the more reason to send children to school.  Indeed, children should not have been kept out of school at all.

Some people may ask:  What about the teachers?  There is no reason why we cannot protect the teachers also. Those teachers who are elderly or who have medical problems  can certainly teach from home.  There’s no reason why we cannot hybridize the learning.

In our county, Hidalgo County, the leaders flinched in moving in-class learning back to late September.  This was a huge mistake. By moving in-class learning back, you’ll move children closer to flu season. When the children get the ordinary flu parents are going to freak out.  The leaders will then respond by closing the school down for the entire year. What will then ensue is a further delay in herd immunity.

It would have been much better for children to go to school right now in the summer when the flu has gone away.

If we can’t place children in schools, we should at least allow them to participate in sports and school activities.

Sincerely,
